Flier Winters Eve Programme 2021 300x200

12 Diwrnod o'r Nadolig / 12 Days of Christmas

Helping those who are less fortunate than ourselves

The telephone box will be lit up for Christmas, and for the first 12 days of December we are calling on villagers to support local food banks by donating goodies, such as Christmas crackers, puddings and cake, mince pies, selection boxes, chocolates, mince pies, biscuits, stollen, savoury snacks, etc.

Bruce and Lyn Rankine also continue to collect general groceries for the Dusty Forge Foodbank such as tinned soups, tinned fruit, baked beans, cereals, biscuits, tea, coffee, tinned rice pudding, pasta, rice, pasta sauces, crisps and squash. These items can be dropped in a box in their carport at Hendre (2nd house on the right after the telephone box.)

St Hilary Xmas Trail

Flier Christmas Trail web

On Saturday and Sunday, 11 and 12 December, there will be a fun Xmas trail organised by Neil and Jayne Warnock.

It is a short walking route, looking for clues around the village and solving a puzzle at the end.

You can pick up a copy from the phone box and there will also be a free Xmas goody bag for the children taking part.

St Hilary’s celebration of Winter’s Eve is a unique programme of events where villagers come together in a series of activities to mark the onset of dark nights and roaring fires.

The pivot of activities is on Sunday 5 December, when we will have the traditional children’s activities and performances by villagers. In addition, there will be many of the activities from last year including the Christmas lights switch-on, Carols around the village, Festive homes and the Festive trail. And there will be a harp recital by Marged Hall carried over from 2020.

You can help by making a donation to support Winter’s Eve: Christmas lights and decorations, insurance, goodies for children, festive home prize, heating,  contribution to the marquee replacement fund, publicity, materials, and equipment. A donation will also be made to each of the professional performers.

Surplus funds will go towards activities planned for 2022: village events, cut clear and clean (3Cs) and initiatives in the telephone box, plus the village insurance.

If you enjoyed last year’s events, please support Winter’s Eve and next year’s activities by donating generously – it is part of what makes St Hilary such a special place to live.

Finally, we have an enthusiastic team of volunteers committed to Winter’s Eve, but everybody is welcome to get involved – just ask!!!
