The village celebrated the Queen's Silver Jubilee in 1977

There was a sports day held in the field by the vicarage on the main lane (now Oaklands).

Mary Thomas related how Ken (the box) Vaughan used to be in charge of the barrel of beer at these events. She recalled a story about her son Russell, when a child, asking Ken if he could have some beer. Ken said no and Russell said that if he didn’t give him some beer he would have to get off our land – so Ken gave him some beer!

"There was a village carnival for the Queen’s Silver Jubilee. The main event was in the field behind the vicarage - also the local cricket ground. Owned by Mary and Ralph Thomas I think. I remember we had our photo taken with the vicar, a young gentleman, in front of the Apple and Pear (village hall). I went as the queen with Lisa, my aunt Bobby’s corgi."
