The inaugural Village Celebration of Winter's Eve took place on Sunday, 2 December 2018.
Events started in the Church with children's activities that included:
- Willow wand making
- Crafts
- Garland making
- Games
- Series of animated seasonal films
After the children's activities in the church, the children had a sunset wassail from the Church, making a grand entrance in the hall.
There was a series of performance in the Hall by children and adults of the village. These included an acoustic guitar set, songs, cornet, fantasy reading, a flash mob, flute, musical dance routine, poems and a soliloquy. Mulled wine, mulled cider, tea, coffee, mince pies, cakes and seasonal crafts were also available.
Finally, many of us went over to the Bush for a winter warming curry and a Winter's Eve Quiz.
There were lots and lots of positive comments – especially about it being a memorable and integrated village community occasion.
Although it wasn't primarily a money raising event, around £400 was shared by the Church, Hall and Village Forum. (Note: The Choir donated its share of the surplus to the Church to go towards repairs to the tower, and the WI donated its share to the other organisations).
AND! All the organisations agreed to fund the costs of the Christmas lights and tree – so they will now be feature for the village for future years.
